Pamper your tastebuds with this stunning side dish. Braised Red Cabbage is healthy, nutritious and super easy to make. It is low in calories and high in Vitamin C, B6 and Potassium. It is also a good source of fibre, iron and calcium.

- 1 kg red cabbage, finely sliced
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 1 medium onion, finely sliced
- 2 apples, peeled, cored and sliced
- 1 tbsp vinegar (standard white vinegar)
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- 2 tsp ground Cumin
- 1 tbsp brown sugar
Begin with discarding the tough outer leaves of the cabbage, then cut it into quarters and remove the hard stalk.
Next, shred the rest of the cabbage finely, salt it and mix it well.
STEP 1: Heat a casserole dish or heavy-based pan over medium heat and add the olive oil. Then add the onion and cook for three minutes.
STEP 2: Next, add the cabbage, apples, vinegar, lemon juice, sugar and ground cumin.
STEP 3: Then, lower the heat slightly, place a lid on the pan and cook for one hour, or until all the vegetables are just tender.
What to serve with Braised Red Cabbage? It is a perfect accompaniment to pork, goose, roast chicken, duck and venison.
